rex is my favorite toy story character. when i saw this at target, i had to play with it. the one i played with had an AWESOME roar! and it amused me for a good 5 minutes or more while my partner was looking at something else. i reaaaaallly wanted to get it, but she wouldn't let me. not a valid purchase for an "adult" i guess.

it was the only one there, so i couldn't compare one rex's roar to another's, but i can see how if the "floor model" were played with too much, or treated badly, you could take home a dud. it's also likely that some shoddy "diaphragms" as another reviewer called them are out there. so, best bet is to buy this in person so you can test out the ROAR! before you take it home.

if you get a good one, it's totally sweet, and will amuse your inner child as well as any "real" children that may be around! -- i'm 30 and i want this toy
This toy was originally bought for my nephew. He loves dinosaurs and he loves green. So in that essence, it was the perfect choice for him. I'm not sure if i would recommend buying this toy online. Instead, i would recommend going to an actual store, and trying for yourself, and give them each a squeeze, to see which one has the best "roar."

The toy's roar is based on a diaphram type bag inside, which based on as it says on the box, "the harder you squeeze, the louder i roar!" I actually saw several of this toy at the store i went to. out of the 7 or so REX's, about a third had nice roar's that actually had the power to blow his jaw open to give a good looking dino roar. The rest of the one's had weak diaphram bags inside them, and only gave out lil "huh huh" sounds not too far off from a patient struggling to breath from emphysema.

He's soft, so wont worry about my nephew sleeping with it. The head is hard, so not the best thing to use as a weapon, as it can do some damage. Ours hasnt broken yet. But i would assume that this isnt a toy that would last, if someone sat on it. -- Not all REX created equal
